Progress reports, conversions costs, clippings, regulations, and brochures relating to the men's dormitory Nathaniel Rochester Hall on the downtown RIT campus. The residence hall was converted from the former Manger Rochester Hotel. The Nathaniel Rochester Hall collection consists of materials related to the men's dormitory at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) city campus. In 1968, the university relocated from the city of Rochester, NY to the suburb of Henrietta. The collection includes promotional materials such as brochures and informational booklets. Also included are progress reports and cost estimates for hotel to dorm conversion, student rules, instructions for hall advisors, newspaper clippings, and the dormitory association constitution.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute. There are several other instances of African American students attending the school during the early 20th century as well...
